Stephen Douglas Kerr, an American citizen is a Golden State Warriors coach and a former professional basketball player. As a player, he won the NBA title five times, three times with the Chicago Bulls and twice with the San Antonio Spurs, and three times as the Warriors’ head coach. Steve Kerr was born on September 27, 1965, in Beirut, Lebanon (Zwicker). His father Malcolm H. Kerr, was an American scholar who specialized in the Middle East, and his mother’s name is Ann. He has three brothers and sisters. After the Armenian genocide, his grandfather, whose name is Stanley Kerr, he volunteered with Near East Relief and saved women and orphans in Aleppo and Marash before settling in Beirut. Kerr grew up in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern nations for the majority of his life. Kerr was born and schooled in the Middle East and played football for the Palisades Dolphins at Palisades Charter High School in Los Angeles, California. Kerr was a member of the Arizona Wildcats in college basketball. He started his professional career with the Phoenix Suns in 1988 before being moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1990. Before joining the Chicago Bulls, he spent three seasons with them and one with the Orlando Magic. 

 

About his career:

The Phoenix Suns selected Steve Kerr in the second round of the 1988 NBA draft after he became available. On March 11, 1989, he made his NBA debut in a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, which the Suns eventually lost. He was moved to the Cleveland Cavaliers the next season, where he spent three seasons until joining the Orlando Magic for the 1992-93 season. In 1993, he was signed by the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls struggled in his first two seasons with the team, which had been missing Michael Jordan since his first retirement.

After getting an unbelievable pass from Jordan in 1997, NBA finals game six against the Utah Jazz, and in this game, Kerr scored the game-winning shot. Despite their previous season’s success, Kerr was dealt with the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2001-02 season. He appeared in 65 games for the Blazers, averaging 4.1 points per game. Kerr decided to return to San Antonio for his final season as a professional basketball player. He made a huge contribution as the Spurs enjoyed yet another spectacular season and won their second NBA championship. Kerr finished his career with 910 games played and an average of 6.0 points per game. He won the NBA Three-Point Shootout title in 1997.

He took a break from television after becoming the Sun’s general manager, but he returned to TNT during the 2010-11 NBA season. On May 14, 2014, Steve Kerr was named head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Following his hire, Kerr elected to adopt parts of the triangle offence, a style of play popularized by his Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson. When the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA finals, they won their first title in 40 years. On November 20, 2016, he was fined $25,000 by the NBA governing body after publicly criticizing NBA officials in a radio interview which was on KNBR 680 on November 17, 2016. In both 2017 and 2018, Kerr’s Warriors defeated the Cavaliers in the NBA finals. In 2015 and 2017, he was chosen NBA All-Star Game head coach, and in 2018, he got the Rudy Tomjanovich Award.

In 1985, Steve Kerr met his future wife, Margot. They both studied at the University of Arizona and they met on a blind date which was set up by a mutual acquaintance.
