Who is Miguel Angel Silvestre?

Miguel Angel Silvestre is a Spanish stage, television, and cinema actor who has recently achieved international acclaim for his roles in the futuristic thriller “Sense8” and the Colombian drug mafia drama “Narcos.”

Not to mention his good looks and acting talent, his Spanish origin made him a natural option for these two popular contemporary shows on Netflix. When the Wachowski siblings considered Silvestre for the character of “gay Spanish actor,” “Lito Rodrguez,” in “Sense8,” he was already a celebrity in Spain, having featured in the big-budget multi-starrer series “Velvet.”

Initiating with working with one of Spain’s biggest directors, Pedro Almodóvar, and then visiting 13 countries to shoot a series, his journey from Madrid to Los Angeles is full of triumphs and jubilations.

Youth, Education, and Before Fame

Miguel Angel Silvestre Rambla was born on April 6, 1982, in Castellón de la Plana, Spain’s capital and mainly inhabited by Valencians. As for his educational qualifications, he kept it a secret.

His father is a physiotherapist and a banker named Miguel Angel Silvestre Vara. His mother’s given name is Mara Lidón.

While Silvestre was learning to be a physiotherapist at the “University of Spain,” his worried father recruited the services of his aunt, a cinematic director, to guide and evaluate his talent. As a result, Silvestre’s impulse to act was not completely unreasonable. He was a regular attendee at his aunt’s theatre rehearsals and looked up to his sister for inspiration.

Career

Silvestre changed his major from physical therapy to drama to focus on his newfound interest. He moved to Madrid and started practicing acting, modern dance, and acrobatics lessons. He rented a place, took part in amateur productions, and even put on a good performance with the help of a friend.

In 2002, Silvestre won the ‘Mister Castelló’ event. In 2004, he made his television breakthrough in “Mis Adorables Vecinos,” a Spanish drama. The sitcom followed the daily activities of a family in a new upscale neighbourhood and their interactions with the locals.

Silvestre didn’t wait long to make his big-screen debut. He starred in the tv series “Vida y Color” by Santiago Tabernero and the social satire “A Golpes” by Juan Vicente Córdoba in 2005. While he was able to break into the Spanish film industry, he also had a successful television career. His first recurring part was in the suspense thriller series “Motivos Personales” from “Round Productions.” He was on the show for 13 episodes.

In his second film, director Iaki Dorronsoro’s “La Distancia,” he moved fast to the leading role. He played a damaged boxer who ends up in prison and trades his principles for freedom in the film. Silvestre discussed his ability to not carry prejudice towards any character he has ever played in an interview with the journal “The Hedonist.” He remarked that he wanted to give any character life depending on their positive and negative experiences.

Silvestre returned to television in 2008 with the successful Colombian telenovela “Sin tetas no hay paraso,” following a short film called “Dolly” in 2007. He continued to appear on the show until 2009, participating in a total of 28 episodes.

He also starred in a variety of films that year, including a handful that he directed. Silvestre played the major part of ‘Ilan’ in Dany Saadia’s romance drama ‘3:19,’ in which he was depicted testing the fate of his love in the face of a devastating disease. His character was a mathematician who believed that human connections are like a formula that relies on a specific set of random integers. In another Spanish love drama, ‘Zhao,’ he played the male lead.

Silvestre’s career as an actor, on the other hand, was altered in 2013. Silvestre struck it rich on both the big and small screens, landing one of the lead characters in the big-budget Spanish TV series “Velvet” and then a dream role in the comedy “I’m So Excited” by prominent Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. His role in the film “Velvet” catapulted him into the international spotlight.

Silvestre has relocated to Los Angeles and is frequently spotted auditioning for various television networks. Jennifer Lopez hand-picked him to star alongside her in her single “El Anillo” in 2018. His most recent project is a miniseries called “En el corredor de la muerte,” which is based on the true tale of Pablo Ibar, a Spaniard who is imprisoned and facing the death penalty for three crimes he maintains he did not commit.

Family / Personal Life / Relationships /Girlfriend

Silvestre’s personal life is shrouded in mystery. He has indicated a long-term girlfriend in a few interviews, however.

Actors Belén López and Blanca Suárez were both in his life. Miriam Pérez, a Canadian model, is another woman he has dated.

Trivia

Silvestre was discovered by a female at Madrid’s ‘Theatre for Amateurs,’ who recommended him to attend for his first film audition. Beatriz was the girl, and she is now his best friend and agent.

Silvestre was questioned about any reservations he could have had about physical closeness with another male actor during the casting of ‘Sense8.’ Silvestre was completely unafraid.
