In the 2006 biographical family drama ‘Miss Potter,’ she auditioned for the role of young ‘Beatrix,’ the lead character. Lucy landed the part after a series of auditions and workshops. Her acting career began with this performance.

In 2007, she appeared in the BBC film Ballet Shoes as Posy Fossil, one of three main characters. Posy is a young, aspirational ballerina who is mentored by a famous dancing institution. In Ballet Shoes, she did not dance; instead, a body double was hired for her character’s dancing scenes.

Boynton starred as ‘Henrietta Norton’ in the TV movie ‘Mo’ in 2010. She appeared as a guest star in the British TV detective drama ‘Lewis’ the following year. This was her first time playing a female lead in a television series. In the 2013 Canadian–American film ‘Copperhead,’ Lucy played ‘Esther Hagadorn.’ Following that, she starred as ‘Raphina,’ a mysterious model in the 2016 comedy–drama film ‘Sing Street.’
